Woman stabbed at La Trobe University .

A WOMAN was stabbed inside a library toilet at a Melbourne university,
before leaving a trail of blood while escaping from her masked attacker,
leaving witnesses in shock.

Police said charges have not yet been laid over the stabbing of the North Fitzroy woman, which happened at the Bundoora campus of La Trobe University shortly after 11am (AEST).

Police said a 23-year-old Bundoora woman was assisting police with their enquiries. A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Ambulance Service said the victim suffered wounds to her upper body and is in a serious but stable condition.

According to witnesses, the victim, believed to be aged in her early 20s, ran out of the toilets leaving a trail of blood behind her. Witnesses also said that the woman was screaming that a man in a mask had stabbed her.

An internal email from resources and administration vice-principal Paul Richardson said: "Police and ambulance services have responded quickly to emergency calls from the University and are currently managing the situation."

It also said emergency counselling for staff and students was being organised.

一直有警察在维持秩序..

过后好像陆陆续续传召证人...

Woman charged over La Trobe Uni stabbing

A woman has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing in a Melbourne university library toilet on Tuesday.
Behavioural science student Jemma Clancy, 27, is in a serious but stable condition at the Royal Melbourne Hospital with stab wounds to her upper body following the attack at La Trobe University in Bundoora, in the city's north, about 11am (AEST) on Tuesday.Shocked students were quickly evacuated.

"This girl comes downstairs and said: 'Someone's in the toilets with a knife. Someone's in the toilets with a knife and we just got out of there and we started to run," one student told the Nine Network.

"It wasn't supposed to happen here. This is sort of kept to America," another witness said.
Student Sarah Jean Cheney, 23, of Bundoora, appeared in a brief out-of-sessions hearing at Preston police station this evening, charged with attempted murder.

Police allege Cheney used a steak knife in the attack but was carrying three others in her bag when she was arrested.She did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The university's pro-vice chancellor, Dr Kerry Ferguson, said emergency response procedures were invoked immediately."Security services responded within two minutes," she told reporters."Police are currently managing the situation."The university is putting in place counselling for staff and students.
